Carl Maximilian von Bauernfeind (*1818- †1894).

From 1844 Bauernfeind taught engineering and land surveying at the Royal Polytechnic School in Munich, as well as being an engineer for the Board of Building and Public Works in railway and bridge construction. Bauernfeind authored Elemente der Vermessungskunde, a standard surveying text book, that went through 7 edtions from 1856 to 1890.

Invented by Bauernfeind in 1851, used to erect a perpendicular from a point on a line. Unknown maker, ca. 1900.

Bauernfeind Winkelspiegel

This instrument is a further development of the previous, and now has the advantage of being able to view both ends of a baseline (i.e. when marked by ranging poles)  as well as a point perpendicular to it. Unknown maker, retailed by Gebr. Wichmann, early 19th century.

 

In 1873 Emil Wichmann opens a shop in drawing supplies in Karlstrasse 14 in Berlin. Renamed Gebr. Wichmann when brother Gustav joins the company in 1876.
