Jan Jurrien Buddingh Jr. (*1832;1906), son of pharmacist Jan Jurrien Buddingh Sr. (*1781;1861). From around 1847 Buddingh Jr. was in the employ of Christopher Becker (*1805;1890), a balance and scientific instrument maker in Arnhem. When Becker left for the United States in 1855, Buddingh Jr. acquired the company and it was renamed Becker & Buddingh (fig. 1 above).

Becker & Buddingh received the predicate Koninklijk (Royal) in 1882. When Buddingh died in 1905, the company was left without a successor. Gerrit De Koningh (*1876;1947), an aspiring instrument maker, acquired part of the company's machines and inventory as well as taking on a number of its former employees. Becker & Buddingh is also known to have made surveying instruments. De Koningh continued to produce a number of the most popular Becker & Buddingh's models (fig. 2 and 3 above). The drawing set in Fig. 4, made by E.O. Richter, was retailed by Becker & Buddingh in the early 1900s.
